December Outfits

 And Wow on Wednesday

Is This Mutton in what she's been wearing so far this month

Dear friends. This post brings back memories of when I was working and used to take pictures of my outfits, taking care to snap them before the rest of my colleagues arrived in the office.

I was taking part in the Kettlewell Colour Club 12 Days of Christmas challenge.  I like this annual challenge because it encourages you to dig deep in your wardrobe each day.

LOOK GOOD OVER 60

Top pic shows a tasteful Christmas jumper/sweater, which I promise is not an oxymoron. I've had this jumper for several years: it came from John Lewis.  It's fairly subtle so I'm happy to wear it throughout December.  I used to buy a different Christmas sweater every year because when I was working we invariably had a trip to California in December and would wear our festive numbers on one specific day.

I don't buy a new one now because I'm trying to curtail unnecessary purchases for the sake of the planet.

I'm wearing it with a poppy ruched skirt from Kettlewell and red/black boots, old, from Lotus.

Candy cane stripes was the prompt for this challenge, which suited my tutti frutti tee down to the ground.  It's great to wear a summer tee in the winter.  I added a new denim skirt from Kettlewell and their lime Shelley wrap. The metallic green belt gives a bit of glamour.  The gold boots are from last year, Oliver Bonas.

Metallic boots are a fabulous neutral. I've just bought a gold bag from White Stuff via M&S because I like to take a stylish tote when I need to carry a lot of stuff, and I don't always have the right colour.  Metallic fits the bill perfectly.

My ever useful black and white abstract skirt (old, Asos) is livened up with blue and red, both pieces from Kettlewell.  The boots are old, M&S, and to add extra texture there are black lace tights.

Finally my last remaining cashmere jumper, bought last year from Pure Collection, with a sale purchase, coral chino's from Kettlewell.  Rose gold goes well with this colour;  the boots are old, from Office. The cheetah belt, from Kettlewell, adds some fashionable animal print.

I wore this outfit on the annual family trip to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition at the Natural History Museum, which was followed by a Christmas lunch.

We were lamenting in the colour club how cashmere is usually poor quality now.  The cashmere in M&S, Boden and Uniqlo look fine when you buy them but they are skimpy and more prone to bobbling.  I had some cashmere from a few years ago and it was entirely different.  If I wanted that quality now I'd have to pay £300+ at specialists like Brora.  My Pure jumper was in the sale but had a high price originally.

What are you wearing in December?  Do you still buy cashmere? Do tell in the comments. Scroll below the link-up to find the comments box.

  1. I'm in love with the candy cane tee! It's the stripes, the colours, it all reminds me off British holidays some how. I think I will be wearing pleats for Christmas. And thank you so much for the feature!

  2. All lovely outfits, Gail, particularly the beautiful Pure cashmere jumper and coral trousers. I love hearing where your items are from and how long you have had them. I am seriously encouraged now to search my own wardrobe for hidden treasures!
