What I Wore to Good Housekeeping Live

 And Wow on Wednesday

All about Good Housekeeping Live 2024 including what Is This Mutton wore

Dear friends. I had such a great time at the event run by Good Housekeeping that I thought I'd write a post about it.  GH Live is an annual Christmas themed event, run in collaboration with Country Living magazine.

I went with Anna who some of you know from her YouTube site, My Over 50 Fashion Life. We went under our own steam  (not gifted).

Held at the Business Design Centre in Islington, the show had three stages for speakers plus demonstrations and a fair featuring companies showcasing products such as cashmere, candles, gifts, food and jewellery.

Anna and I upgraded to a VIP ticket which was very good value at £45 as it meant we could visit any of the stages and use the VIP lounge. The lounge had comfortable seating to watch the speakers on a screen, as well as dining.  At the end we received a goody bag.

Our ticket also included a glass of prosecco and a tea or coffee. Best of all, our VIP ticket entitled us to an online subscription of the magazine for a year.  Well worth having.

Look Who We Found!

We made a beeline for the Kettlewell Colours stand. The three stylists from the colour studio were doing brisk business with a long queue of women wanting to have a flavour of colour analysis  (more detailed sessions can be booked online at Kettlewell's site).

Anna has been "diagnosed" twice before, the first time as an Autumn and the second as a Summer.  I always had her down as cool toned, although she's quite neutral so I can see why it's difficult to judge.

Sancha proved that Anna is a Summer. It was very obvious as the Summer drapes were very flattering against her skin tone and made her look younger, whereas the autumn colours made her look yellow.

Regular readers will know that I like to wear a "Total Look," which means the outfit co-ordinates well with my coat, bag, footwear and so on.

I wore a new pinafore dress from Madcap England which has a purple and black pattern. This colourway would not be very flattering on me normally but I'm a great believer in adding a "good" colour, in this case a Pink Fizz Lyocell shirt from Kettlewell.

I like pinafore dresses because they're great for layering in winter.  Wear a roll neck jumper underneath, with a cardigan and opaque tights. They have a fun vibe: they're not taking themselves too seriously.

My total look included my purple coat, a gift from Penny at Frugal Fashion Shopper, purple tights (Snag) and comfortable purple ankle boots (Amazon). My purple Kettlewell tote was ideal to carry home any purchases!   It wasn't cold enough for my purple leather gloves and baker boy cap.  Another time. As well as liking gamine style, I have a bit of classic in me which means I like matching accessories.

Here I am at the event with Sancha on the Kettlewell stand. I bumped into Gabbie who I follow on Instagram (see her in my skirt challenge).

Anna saw Prue Leith on the main stage, and we both watched a presentation by the Good Housekeeping Institute on the Good Looks stage.  They described their rigorous testing program for products, and shared some of the beauty gadgets that have had the best scores. We also saw author Marian Keyes on the screen in the VIP lounge.

Make-up transformations were taking place with L'Oreal but we didn't have time for that.

It was an excellent event, well organised and fun.  We'll be back next year.

Going to the event made me nostalgic for the trade shows I used to organise occasionally when I was working in marketing.  But this show was totally different from the likes of Embedded World in Nuremburg and Wearable Tech in London.

It's a busy week on Is This Mutton. On Thursday I'm giving tips for gaining Confidence, something I've gained more of as I've got older.  I'm joined by seven other bloggers who also give their experiences of Confidence. And on Friday I'll be sharing some great new books published this month.

Now it's time for Wow on Wednesday, where readers can find new blogs to follow, and bloggers can find new readers.

  1. Sounds like a lovely event and how nice you went with Anna! I love events like that but don't attend them anymore because of the wheelchair. That is such a pity. Love your outfit, you always wear great colours!
