Summer Dresses in Cold Weather

 And Wow on Wednesday

Dear friends.  2024 has definitely been The Year of the Dress for me.  I hardly had any dresses, this year I've bought seven, mostly pre-loved.

They're all summer dresses, but lend themselves well to being "winterised."

Let me share my latest acquisition, a retro look dress from Madcap England, and how I'll be wearing it for the next few months.

The dress is a size 10  (US 6). It's in a flattering A line shape and the polyester/lycra fabric (sustainable) is not clingy and feels soft.   The pattern has several colours,  ganache, orange and blue, which give different styling options.

A winter look for this sleeveless dress is my preference because I don't like to expose my arms these days (but a shirt or tee underneath would be fine for summer).  I chose a silky roll neck from Kettlewell in Dutch Blue  (Spring, Summer).

I added one of my birthday presents - white boots (Amazon) with a 60s feel - (and so comfortable!) and tights in Peach from Snag. My bag is from Nephele Bags, lots of different combinations available. Each bag is hand crafted using eye catching pieces of leather offcuts destined for landfill.

I could also add a Chloe jacket or long cardigan for more warmth.

I love the fun 60s retro vibes, and the length of the dress, which is perfect on me at 5'3. I used to avoid dresses because they always had too much material, or were too body con;  plus I felt they were too "dressy".  But the retro style feels more natural to me.  It's all about discovering what works for your personality. I'm a bit like a broken record on that!

Don't worry, I know you're not all into retro 60s, or even colour analysis,  so I'll occasionally feature different looks, as I did on Monday with a midi length full skirt and black top.

The pic above was taken with flash and I don't think my under eyes were quite as greasy as they look! Make-up used:  Clarins Everlasting Youth Fluid in Honey, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Madeleine, Code Beautiful Lid Lift Enhance, Iconic Blush Stick in Iconic, Eye of Horus Eye Pencil in Purple, Hypnose Mascara by LancĂ´me, lipstick by Deliah in Tango, Sculpt and Shade Lip Pencil in 1W by Lisa Eldridge.
