And Wow on Wednesday
Dear friends. Today I'm sharing a couple of my new season buys. I wrote last week about how I was mainly buying thrifted clothes, perfect seeing this is #secondhandseptember. But because of the scarcity of the warm, clear and bright colours that suit me best, I'm also buying a few items from Kettlewell Colours.
They specialise in basics and iconic pieces for women who have been colour analysed.
I'll start first with this new Pink Fizz blouse, in the softest Lyocell. I wore it to the Kettlewell Colour Club meet up in London at the weekend, going for impact with lime green crops.
I've shown the blouse with my cream moto jacket, which was how I wore it, and below, loose with the sides tucked. I prefer a tucked-in look myself as I like everything to look neat and fitted.
I'll share this "out take" of the colourful gathering attended by 14. I set up the tripod to take pictures and here I am just managing to get into the photo. I then remembered to turn the timer on.
On the far left you can see Amanda, who gave me my "wow colours" refresh recently. She is a Winter, and you can see the difference between her cool toned fuchsia pink and the warm pink I'm wearing.
My other new pink acquisition is a merino tank top in a colour called Sherbet Pink. This is a more blue toned pink. I have another in bright navy which I showed last week. In buying two tank tops I've broken one of my own rules, which is that if I wore something in the 70s, it's not something I should revisit again if it becomes trendy again. Well, it's a rule I've broken a few times if I look at things like bomber jackets and wedge shoes.
I'm wearing it with two items that I bought pre-loved (#SecondhandSeptember), an apple mint ribbed shirt and a Boden skirt. I don't think you can go wrong with pink and green! Buttoning up the shirt, the neat satchel bag and the flat t-bar shoes give me my slightly retro, gamine vibe, along with the pink bag from the Cambridge Satchel Company.
I've made a few pre-loved buys in the last couple of weeks. You may remember how I gave away a floral Boden skirt a couple of years ago and then regretted it. I wrote about it here. Well, I found an exact replica on eBay for a tenner, and snapped it up. I've also acquired, for £4, a light brown corduroy pinafore dress from Vinted, plus a purple velvet skirt from Boden via eBay. I'll show you these finds very soon.
Feeling Old!
After the Kettlewell event I set off for home after a fun time, only to be brought down to earth with a bang when a woman on the underground offered me her seat. She actually wasn't much younger than me. It's happened about three times now. I was crestfallen. I'm the one who usually gives my seat away, to people much older than me, or anyone with a stick or obviously pregnant.
I guess we never think of ourselves as old, but it's a nasty shock when we realise we must appear old to other people. My mum still laments the fact she has wrinkles, even though she's 92.
That's It for Today....
How do you feel about trends that originated when you were a teenager? Do you avoid them or wear them anew, styled for today? And how did you feel if you've ever been offered a seat on public transport? Do tell in the comments.
