Dear friends. Sharing today a new book that's full of inspiration and wise advice from Fiona Lambert.
Fiona is a successful businesswoman and mother of two who has held senior roles at Next, Asda, Dunelm and River Island. Fiona worked alongside George’s founder George Davies to set up and launch George as the first fashion supermarket brand in 1990.
As she neared her 60th birthday she vowed to get into the best shape of her life.
Fiona says: "Although there was a lot of effort, the big changes to my fitness wasn't so much about working ridiculously hard as altering my lifestyle. Small measures can add up to quite a lot. Eating consciously and exercising regularly was the key. Consistency, I found, was everything. And if I can into great shape at this age, anyone can."
FIONA'S APPROACH TO DIET
Fiona lost 14 pounds (6.35 kg) and 5% of her body fat in 90 days. She knew it would be a strict plan but the fact there was an end date spurred her on.
She needed to have a calorie deficit of 300 - 400 calories a day to reach the goals she had set. She aimed to cook from scratch 90% of the time and kept a food journal of everything eaten. You'll find plenty of recipes and a shopping list in the book. The recipes are high in protein, low in carbohydrates and sugars and relatively low calorie. She includes research nuggets that underpin her choices.
Unlike many books of this type, the recipes are not full of hard to find or strange "magic" ingredients. It's all commonsense cooking, with dishes like Seared Tuna with Herby Quinoa, Roast Chicken with Roasted Squash and Broccoli and Turkey Bolognese with Courgetti.
EXERCISE
Fiona does 3- 4 hours of exercise a week plus walking whenever she can. Her weekly timetable typically includes two hours of personal training, a home workout of 15-20 minutes of HIIT or Tabata 4 times a week and walking 10 - 15,000 steps a day.
The exercise section is very comprehensive but achievable. You don't have to be in a gym. You don't even need to buy weights. Fiona shows how to build muscle with bottles of water instead of dumbbells.
STYLE
As someone who's worked in the fashion industry, Fiona Lambert is well qualified to give style tips and she includes a section on styling the new you.
She also covers supplements and getting a good night's sleep.
It's great to have a book of latest know-how on diet and exercise from a woman in her 60s. Invincible not Invisible is published today, 12 August.
