Inspired by Beautiful Birds

Join Is This Mutton for outfits inspired by the plumage of beautiful birds.

Dear friends.  I love taking part in outfit challenges as they get the creative juices flowing, and remind us of unloved clothes sitting in the wardrobe.

Today's challenge lasts for a month at the Kettlewell Colour Club on Facebook, and it's Birds of a Feather. Here are three outfits inspired by plumage.

First up is a pink bird that isn't a flamingo!  It's a Roseate Spoonbill, found in coastal Southeast US and West Indies through Mexico and Central America.

A pink and grey outfit to match the roseate spoonbill bird's plumage from Is This Mutton

It's not essential to take the challenges very literally. The Kettlewell Colour Club is for women who've been seasonally analysed, and each of the four seasons has versions of pink. It doesn't have to be identical to the bird in question.

I'm wearing a Pink Fizz Darcey v neck with a rose pink Lisa cardigan, both Kettlewell, and dove grey chinos from Cotton Traders (gifted).  My necklace is from a shop on Etsy called Polka Dot Drawer.  Jeans by M&S, trainers by Schuh  (current).

The bright lipstick is a bit of a "liptail" where two lipsticks have been layered on each other.  I'd started with Englise Rose by Max Factor and decided I needed more heft, so added True Coral by Look Fabulous Forever.

Bird #2 doesn't need any introduction - it's the peacock. I've always loved these vain, strutting birds. My peacock skirt came from Hope  (sadly no more in existence).  I added my new square neck top in Bright Teal and short tie wrap in Bright Apricot, along with a belt in Hawaii, rose gold boots (old), and two of my signature Georgian style Austrian crystal necklaces (from Lynn's Gem Creations on Etsy).

The next bird is commonly found in the UK, by rivers. It's the beautiful kingfisher.  I'm wearing a pima V t-shirt in Peach Cocktail, leopard belt and Chloe jacket in Blue Jewel, all from Kettlewell.  The orange chinos are reduced at Asos.

Finally a gorgeous blue tit, a bird found in the UK and the rest of Europe.

My blue tit inspired outfit is a Rachel jacket in Electric Blue, pima V in Angel Blue, and suede belt in Acid Yellow, all Kettlewell. My necklace is from Etsy. Boots, current, from Amazon. The relaxed straight trousers in calico are from M&S  (current).

Blue and yellow for Is This Mutton in honour of the gorgeous blue tit bird.

  1. Oh yes, I love bird prints. Not only on clothing. But love them on paintings, jewellery etc. That peacock skirt is fabulous!
