Red Alert!

 #StyleNotAgeChallenge

Is This Mutton and four blogger friends are on Red Alert as they style outfits in the colour red

Dear friends. It's time for the monthly Style Not Age Challenge and Jacqui from Mummabstylish has us on Red Alert.

I thought this would be an easy challenge but I don't have very many red pieces. I chose my poppy red ruched skirt (Kettlewell), which I haven't worn on the blog before. It turned out I was the only one to wear a skirt, so good choice.

As red is such a powerful colour, it can overwhelm me as a light spring (in seasonal analysis). I like it with light green or cream. Here I'm wearing an apple mint ribbed shirt (Kettlewell, pre-loved). The scarf, created for those coded spring (My Season Jewellery and Accessories) brings the colours together.  Patterned tights add some texture.  The coat, which you've seen before, was bought for £5 from a charity shop.  My bag (Dune) is current, boots, old, from Lotus.

There's a red for everyone. As long as you know if you're cool or warm toned, you'll find the best red for you.

Below I've shown five different reds for comparison, all from Kettlewell Colours.

Different reds for different women, but there's a tone of red for everyone says Is This Mutton in Red Alert

Hilda and Emma, below, are both warm toned like me, and have automatically reached for reds with an orange undertone. Anna and Jacqui are both in blue toned reds, better for those with a cool skin tone.

A few people have a neutral skin tone and can wear the universal True Red from Kettlewell, as well as reds like scarlet which suit every season except autumn.  Those coded summer (cool toned) have a lighter, brighter red which has more pink, such as strawberry. Autumns are good in earthier reds like Red Earth, above.

Jacqui from Mummabstylish, whose challenge this is, has borrowed a jumpsuit from Warehouse from her daughter.  She's wearing it with an oversized blazer, red shoes and red bag, all shopped from Jacqui's wardrobe.

Emma from Stylesplash has mixed a couple of different reds with her River Island top and trousers, Jayley bag, necklace from a charity shop and black long vest from Principles (old).

Anna from Anna's Island Style says she doesn't wear red very often.  Here she's in a co-ord, old, from Zara with boots from Vinted. It's a winner.

Hilda from Over the Hilda is wearing trousers from suit at Selected Femme, Primark cardi and Dune shoes, old.

I hope you enjoyed our different takes on Red. Is it a colour you like and wear often? Do you consciously look out for certain shades of red? Do let us know in the comments.  Visit each of the blogs to see more of the girls' outfits.

  1. That was another fun challenge Gail. Loved the whole of your look especially the green accents. I’m excited for January’s title and to get thinking. Have a fun week xx Jacqui
