Outfits This Week

 & #WowOnWednesday

Is This Mutton the style blog for the over-50s shares outfits worn over the last few days

Dear friends. Looking back at old posts, I was nostalgic about the "what I'm wearing" posts when I was working. I decided to show you what I've been wearing lately.

For my birthday I chose a dress bought three years ago and not worn then because we went into another lockdown. It has been worn since, but not very often, although I love it. I paired it with a gorgeous charity shop find, a poppy red, fitted coat with the Coast label.  I'd been looking for a coat like this for ages and it jumped out in a Plymouth charity shop.

Meeting Penny and Jill at the V&A

I was a bit daunted about what to wear to see Penny, from Frugal Fashion Shopper, and Jill, from Grownup Glamour. They're very chic in their own ways, Penny with a rock chick vibe, and Jill in her fabulous monochrome with pops of colour and outstanding accessories.

I didn't think one of my trademark colourful outfits would be appropriate - too much like a children's TV presenter. But I figured I could get away with one colour in a tonal outfit, so I chose green. It's the first outing for my pre-loved Kettlewell ribbed shirt in apple mint, worn with M&S jeggings, velvet boots (old) and kelly green coat, M&S, old. Vegan leather bag, John Lewis.

Find out more about we got up to in my end of the month review (Friday 24 November).

Shopping Trip

I made a rare trip to Bond Street to do some clothes shopping.  It was quite a mild day with the chance of rain, so I wore a short sleeved top, the Becca sweater from Kettlewell, and teamed it with my Rupert Bear trousers circa early 1990s  (my oldest garment), comfortable Strive boots (read about them here) and a light rain coat.  It was the ideal outfit because I got quite hot and bothered in the stores.

I'm only wearing concealer because I might be trying on clothes.

I'm wearing the latest addition to my collection of Georgian crystal necklaces.  J got me this for my birthday, from Etsy.

The National Gallery

I've just become a member of the National Gallery. For my first trip as a member, I went to see the Frans Hals exhibition with Oxana.

A beautiful blue sky day, and again, quite warm.

More green, in the form of my M&S sweater in lime (last year), worn with very old coat bought in New York, velvet brown trousers from Robell (current) and Strive boots. And not forgetting a Poppy brooch for Remembrance Day.

Street Party

J's sister invited us to join family and neighbours for a tour of the Christmas lights followed by a get together in her mews, in central London.  We dodged the lights because it was raining, but spent a pleasant couple of hours at the party.

I'd dressed for cold weather and had to take one layer off. Again, I defaulted to green. Kettlewell supersoft V top in mint, silky roll neck in apple and velvet Robell trousers.  I added a poncho and green coat.

The weather is quite a challenge in autumn/winter. I have a couple of puffer jackets, a rain trench and four stylish wool coats.  I like to wear the coats when it's dry but cold, but it's so often wet and then I have to resort to the rain trench or a puffer.  And footwear! I tend to wear leather Chelsea boots if it's wet, rather than my colourful ankle boots or brogues. And all this puts restrictions on my actual outfit. For example, the red dress is quite long and hangs under the rain trench, which I don't like.  Sigh.

Keeping it Real

This is what I'm wearing as I write this post. Very old ripped jeans and holey grey cardigan, brightened up with a pretty scarf in spring colours by Sarah Lonergan

Pop back for this month's Tell Us About, which tomorrow is all about Laughter. And on Friday it's time for the monthly book reviews.

  1. I love the bold colours you put together here. The red is just gorgeously put together and the green and yellow are perfect.
