Kimono My House

 Style Not Age Challenge

Gail Hanlon from Is This Mutton in floral patterned kimono worn over white jeans with teal sandals

Dear friends.  It's the last Monday of the month so time for the Style Not Age Challenge.  It was my turn and I've chosen Kimono My House. Some of you will remember that as the title of an eponymous Sparks album in the 70s.

Kimono can be interpreted in several ways.  They're duster coats with an oriental patterns; dresses with distinctive sleeves, or short jackets.

Five bloggers interpret the style theme Kimonos, with very different results. Gail Hanlon from is This Mutton has an oriental patterned duster coat.

My kimono is by Yumi at John Lewis  (bought in the sale). I'm wearing it over an essential v neck by Kettlewell in True Teal (one of my favourite colours), white jeans (M&S) and teal sandals (Asos).

It's quite a boho look for me, ideal for festivals (if I went to them). A kimono like this is ideal for flinging over a casual outfit to give it a bit of interest. And perfect for cooler days. Lipstick is Rainbow Spill by Lisa Eldridge.

Shades of green, teal and pink in this kimono worn by Gail Hanlon of Is This Mutton with the challenge she set the Style Not Age collective: Kimono My House.

Let's see how my style friends got on. Emma from Stylesplash is wearing a kimono jacket that she  bought on eBay years ago. It's by a brand called Darling. Emma has teamed it with yellow trousers from River Island, a blue vest top she bought at her favourite shop in Funchal, shoes from a charity shop and a bag bought in France. Sunnies are from SkinnyDip London.

Anna from Anna's Island Style is sporting a linen overshirt/kimono and linen trousers, both new, from Number 36 boutique in Penzance, worn with an old vest top and silver/white sandals from TK Maxx (also old).

Hilda from Over the Hilda is looking very glamorous as she does her shopping, but she explains she was heading for a girls' night out immediately after picking up some groceries.

She shopped her wardrobe for the kimono, wide leg trousers (Topshop) and shoes (Asos).

Jacqui from Mummabstylish shows off her tan in white wide leg trousers which were a present from her children and from River Island, cropped top from Primark and a gifted lace cover up/kimono from a  friend.

I hope you enjoyed our very different ways of styling a kimono. What do you associate with the word - duster coats, short jackets or dresses? And who had Kimono My House by Sparks? Do let us know in the comments.
