Christmas Collection

 & WowOnWednesday

Dear friends. Here it is, the 2022 Christmas jumper (sweater to my US friends).  It's red with little sequin Christmas trees and came from TU at Sainsbury's.

It's not my favourite, which would have to be last year's pink reindeer number, from the children's department at M&S.

I seem to have a soft spot for reindeer because yet another Christmas jumper has a gold reindeer on it.

I know a lot of you think these jumpers are fugly or naff, but hopefully you'll see that when they're dressed up, they're not so bad. And the jumpers I choose are low key in terms of kitsch.

Pre-Covid, it was a Thing to wear our Christmas jumpers to work on a particular day.  In December 2019, this was memorably at a face-to-face meeting in the US.  I don't Christmas sweaters are such a thing there because our American colleagues were a bit nonplussed by all the reindeers, flashing antlers and primary colours.

I'll be wearing my Christmas jumper on Sunday, with jeans or jeggings and my fun cherry earrings.

When did Christmas jumpers arrive on the scene?

Our first exposure to the "ugly" Christmas jumper was probably in 2001 when, in the film Bridge Jones's Diary, Colin Firth memorably wore a crew neck with a giant reindeer's head knitted into the front.

Since then Brits have embraced the novelty statement Christmas jumper, with everyone from celebrities and politicians to whole families wearing themed knitwear – the sillier the better. Over the past few years Christmas jumpers have come decked out in fairy lights, can be connected to phones, and have sound clips in them.

It's often hard to find a jumper in good colours. They're usually black, navy or frantically multi-coloured.  This year a couple of retailers, notably TU and M&S, had jumpers in more desirable colours like pink, mint, blush.

What a difference a year makes

The top picture and the other two are separated by just a year, but I feel I've aged a lot in the last 12 months! I put it down to coming off HRT 13 months ago.  Plus I had just been to a boot camp when the 2021 photos were taken and was thrilled with the fat loss I achieved.

I'm going back in January for a refresher stay which will hopefully get me on the right track for 2023. I do better on a low carb diet, but lately a few undesirable carbs have been creeping back in.

I'm back on Monday with the lovely ladies of the Style Not Age Challenge and we'll be showing you our Sparkle and Shine.  There's no post next Wednesday, I'm taking a short break from blogging, so the next WowOnWednesday link-up will be Wednesday 4 January 2023.

  1. I don't think I've ever had a Christmas jumper. Gerben did! I do love them though. I wish you a very cozy Christmas and enjoy your break!
