In my first pic, I'm ready for a canal path walk - hence the trainers - and have not added lipstick or accessories. After the walk, I was going to an art gallery, so I added a cute bag, bright pink lipstick, a Georgian paste necklace, a belt, sunglasses and a peridot ring.
Serving up my dish of accessories:
In my second outfit, I've again added lipstick (see what a difference it makes?), an unusual ring watch, and a matching necklace and bracelet in my seasonal (winter) colours, plus a bowling bag.
I'm always on the look out for the right accessories: quirky bags in colours that match my outfits, not black or navy; striking rings, such as the watch ring below, and distinctive footwear, particularly brogue shoes or ankle boots in a rainbow of colours, worn with contrasting or patterned socks or tights.I Can Get it Wrong Too
I feel I have mostly nailed my own personal gamine style. Neat and fitted clothes, not much pattern. However - I can still get it very wrong, particularly when I try to experiment.
I was recently tempted by a new patterned blouse from Kettlewell in a new colourway for those coded as winter, ice champagne. I don't usually wear tunics or blouses untucked, and you can see exactly why. The fabric overwhelms me and makes me look bigger than I am.
However the tucked version is not great either - and the chunky pearls, which I always thought of as my signature style, are too big and look distracting.
The colour isn't good: I need brighter colours.
Needless to say I didn't keep the blouse, and the pearls I will reserve for a less busy, and probably black, background. More on finding your own style.

Last Week's Favourites (Most Clicked)
It was Mother's Day in many countries (not the UK) at the weekend, and Mireille from Chez Mireille joined forces with Ada from Elegance and Mommyhood with pictures and a cute IG Reel of their dresses and children.
Have you heard of the new TikTok trend of "Coastal Grandmothers?" I hadn't. Rosemary from Distinctly Southern Style has this vibe well and truly nailed.
Is This Mutton Favourite
I love seeing pictures from glam celebrity occasions, like the Met Gala - and Lucy from Lucy Bertoldi thrilled me by adding her interpretation of the different styles and who she thought delivered the theme the best (Sarah Jessica Parker, of course!): Fashion Unstitched: Met Gala's Gilded Glamour Interpretations. Below, Kim Kardashian in the iconic dress worn by Marilyn Monroe when she sang Happy Birthday to the President. Who wore it best?
What a different a few accessories make right. I think that blouse isn't that bad, tucked in, but colour looks far more better on you, I agree.
ReplyDeleteOh Gail that first outfit, lime and white with stripes. I adore it!
