Dear friends. The Style Not Age Challenge is back and it's a fun one this time. We're inspired by Iris Apfel, the American businesswoman, who's 101 this year. Today she launched a collaboration with H&M, which just goes to show how timeless fashion can be: the preview is on Wednesday (30 March).
Iris has a very distinctive style: she often wears a monotone, or tonal, outfit (all one color) which includes masses of jewellery, plus her trademark large framed glasses. She doesn't always wear bright colors - there are several pictures of her in black and white, and at first I was going to style a black and white outfit with masses of pearl necklaces. For a glamorous occasion, Iris often wears faux fur or feathers, or an elaborate collar.
Iris also likes to pair two dramatic colors for impact. I decided to go for pink and green clash, as she did above.
“Style is within. When you’ve found yourself, you’ll find your style.” – Iris Apfel
I'm wearing a fuchsia wrap and top from Kettlewell, jeggings from M&S, a green collar from Rew, and my faithful pink boots (FSJ). The reading glasses are from Amazon. Iris always wears a statement lipstick, so mine is Velvet Carnival by Lisa Eldridge. The big flower ring came from M&S (old). Iris may well have added some necklaces, but I thought the collar made enough of a statement and instead worked with rings and a silver cuff.
Let's see how my style friends got on! Here's Anna from Anna's Island Style. She is wearing no fewer than nine necklaces. Her trousers are new, from Zara, and she has teamed them with a blouse from TK Maxx, and boots (old) from New Look. Her sunglasses are from River Island and all of the jewellery is from charity shops.
Hilda from Over the Hilda, who came up with this challenge, has nailed one of Iris's frequent poses. She borrowed her green dress and cardigan from a local shop in Malahide, Ireland. The jewellery is mostly her daughter's and was left behind when she moved out.
Below: here's Jacqui from Mummabstylish, in her Iris specs, rust F&F dress from her wardrobe, patchwork blouse from Zara, necklaces from Primark and a local boutique, and shoes gifted from Vivaia shoes.
