Sunday Home Spa

Dear friends.  Today I'm sharing my new skincare routine, what I do for my Sunday spa ritual, and a new product from one of my favourite brands, Look Fabulous Forever.

Sunday is my rest day from exercise, and, with the house to myself for a couple of hours, I have what I call my "beauty bath," where I indulge in the Instagram trend of #sundaymasking.

The ritual calls for suds, something luxurious and beautifully scented from Suzanne Kaufmann or Laura Mercier, or failing that, good old Radox or Epsom salts.

Then I get started on the facial.

I've recently discovered a brand called Lixirskin, via the beauty advent calendar I had over Christmas.

I have rarely been so impressed by a skincare range. The calendar product was the Universal Emulsion, a deeply moisturizing cream with a delightful ylang ylang fragrance.  After I'd used up the 50ml tube I bought 100ml plus their ElectroGel, Ionic Shots and 2 Night Switch serums (retinol 1% and PHA/AHA 10%).

Lixirskin believe the skin gets used to the same products, so they recommend you alternate the Night Switch products every two or three weeks. The pair I'm using is the formula for older women.

The brand also believes that layering too many products can cause counteraction and irritation if not paired correctly. The routine is minimalist, taking care of the everyday skin needs we all share and targeting specific skin concerns when needed.

I have noticed a huge difference in my skin. Much brighter and smoother. And those who regularly read my honest beauty reviews will know I'm quite sceptical and hard to please. The products have not been gifted and I've had no contact with the brand.

While the bath is filling I exfoliate my skin using Lixirskin Electrogel mixed with an Ionic Shot.

Look Fabulous Forever Hydrating Clay Mask

The new Hydrating Clay Mask from Look Fabulous Forever, the British beauty created by, and for, women over the age of 50

After exfoliating I use a face mask and relax in the warm water.  I'm not keen on those tissue masks, photogenic as they are;  most of them are terrible for the environment.  Look Fabulous Forever, who specialize in make-up and skincare for the concerns  of older women, have brought out a new face mask* whose title sounds a bit like an oxymoron. Clay and hydrating?

My memories of clay will forever be associated with the "Mudd mask" of my youth which was black, set as hard as rock and took forever to rinse off.

This mask doesn't set rock hard;  it's pale pink, and easy to smooth on and then rinse off after 10 minutes.

The face mask is designed to moisturise and removes impurities, leaving our skin looking smoother and more even. Ingredients include kaolin, which helps detox the skin, removing impurities and reducing redness and inflammation, and aloe vera, sweet almond oil and ceramides.  It's free of parabens, mineral oil and silicone; dermatologically tested,  and vegan.  All LFF's empties can be returned and dealt with by their recycling partner. Good to know!

The mask is brilliant to use before a night out because it gives a temporary glow, and wrinkles appear diminished. A perfect canvas for make-up.

After my 10 mins are up, I use a muslin cloth to remove most of the mask and then rinse to dispel the rest. You can use it once or twice a week. Highly recommended - and a long way away from that Mudd mask!

The rest of my Sunday spa ritual consists of a pedicure - find my pedicure tips (I see I'm using a tissue face mask in this post, aargh).

If you have a Sunday home spa routine, do share and tell us what masks if any you like to use.

*I was gifted with a tube of the Hydrating Clay Mask. My review is unbiased and objective.
