Eye of the Tiger: Style Not Age Challenge

Dear friends. The last Monday of the month means it's time for the Style Not Age Challenge,  where five women aged over 45 creatively interpret a different theme each month.

This time it was Emma's turn to choose, and with the Chinese New Year around the corner, she inventively chose "Eye of the Tiger." It is  of course the Year of the Tiger.

I didn't participate with a tiger print, but chose instead a Tiger's Eye necklace.

I don't own any tiger print and the colours don't suit me. In the past I would have bought something cheap for the challenge, and I admit I looked in some charity shops but didn't find anything. I didn't want to buy anything new because I wouldn't wear it again.

Instead I looked for ways of participating but not with clothes. I thought about going to a zoo and taking pictures with tigers in the background, but decided this was impractical because they would be so far away in their enclosures.

Then I had the brainwave of jewellery, and the Tiger's Eye stone. It's a chatoyant gemstone that is usually a golden to red-brown colour with a silky lustre. It's said to be a powerful stone that helps you to release fear and anxiety and aids harmony and balance. It stimulates taking action, and helps you to make decisions with discernment and understanding, and unclouded by your emotions.

I wore a black background to showcase the necklace, which came from Etsy. Everything is old - top from Finery, jacket MaxMara and bought for around £10 in a sale many years ago;  skirt from M&S, boots from Lotus, belt from Kettlewell and bag from Dune.

Let's have a look at how Emma, Anna, Jacqui and Hilda interpreted the challenge.

Emma from Style Splash always looks fabulous in warm, bright colours and the tiger print blouse, hat and orange trousers, are stunning on her. Her blouse is from Topshop but she bought it on eBay; trousers from Zara, tiger necklace by Palava and she bought the hat on eBay years ago,  but hasn't worn it before.

Jacqui from Mummabstylish is also wearing a gorgeous tiger print blouse. Hers came from New Look.  She is wearing it with faux leather trousers from F&F and tan slouch boots.

Anna from Anna's Island Style also goes for an orange vibe with her amazing sequinned jacket from TK Maxx, tiger t-shirt, a bargan £5, from H&M a couple of years ago; trousers from H&M and boots from Topshop.

Hilda from Over the Hilda didn't have any tiger print clothes, so like me she thought outside the box, and borrowed this tiger print bag from a local boutique.  Even though the print and colours aren't for me in an outfit, I would happily carry this bag if I was wearing black as Hilda is.  I like a stylish tote bag, so useful for trips to art galleries when you need to carry an umbrella, bottle of water and so on!

I hope you enjoyed our Eye of the Tiger interpretations. Visit the different blogs to see more pics.  I'm back on Wednesday with #WowOnWednesday.
