For nearly a year I've been working from home and I've mostly been wearing sweatshirts and jeans, or sometimes sportswear. And I've got bored of it. Two things happened to make me decide to dress differently.
First. I upped my Zoom game. I bought a better web cam because the ones built into your laptop are not great, and I was given a halo ring light for Christmas. The difference that makes! I used to be reluctant to turn my camera on because I'm always conscious of being so much older than everyone else at work, and on Zoom you look it! But now the light and the better camera make a huge difference, so it also made me think about wearing smarter outfits.
I know a few of my friends think I'm mad to dress up every day, but it's only what I would wear if I was going to the office. And the impact it has made, psychologically, is huge. I used to resent the fact I had to spend long hours in my home office. But now I put my office clothes on, and make-up, and feel very positive about starting work each day. If I do a workout or walk, I change my clothes and it's a good delineation between leisure and work.
Above I'm wearing my favourite colour, lilac, with a blouse that was second hand and a soft long cardigan over one of my Kettlewell velvet skirts. I've got three now and they're great for working from home because they have an elasticated waist. In the top picture, I'm wearing trousers for the first time in a year with my Zara paisley blouse and a Boden cashmere cardigan. I recently spotted the blouse on the actor who plays David Bowie in the new film Stardust that's been broadly criticised.
Above, an asymmetric skirt from M&S (old) with my favourite red and black boots. I had the necklace, from Boden, for Christmas.
Another look for the purple skirt, this time with a heather coloured jumper, pansy infinity scarf from Kettlewell, and bright pink boots.
And finally back to green. I couldn't wait to wear this new pair of green boots. The boot collection continues to grow, even though I had vowed to stop because I have virtually nearly every colour! I dedicated a
whole post to my boots.
I popped the paisley blouse under this Boden dress which is around 10 years old.
