Ever Experienced Nothing to Wear Syndrome? And Link Up

We finally went Out Out at the weekend, going into London to belatedly celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, which was in June.  We chose the Gilbert Scott Restaurant which is in the Renaissance Hotel at St Pancras. Named after a famous architect and owned by Marcus Wareing, it has a beautiful interior.

You may be surprised I was stumped as to what to wear. Surely, after months of not going out, and with a wardrobe full of clothes, I would have plenty of options?
I was considering my cropped green palm jumpsuit, or the gorgeous silver halter neck sequinned top, worn once only so far at a Christmas concert last year. Then I tucked it into velvet jeans with a jacket over the top.

The jumpsuit suddenly seems far too big, although I haven't lost any weight. I could see how improved it would look with a couple of alterations.  The gusset seems to be around my knees!  So that went back in the wardrobe.

The sequinned top, from Mint Velvet, should have been returned for a smaller size but unfortunately it was sold out, so I foolishly kept it.  When I tried it on, it was too long - hip length.  Loose tops of that length do me no favours whatsoever because I have big shoulders, so inevitably it gives me the silhouette of a fridge. Had I tucked it into trousers or a skirt, there would have been a lot of fabric (and prickly sequins) to ruckle up. Too much for a day where temperatures hit 33  (late 90s fahrenheit). And not suitable to be belted with all those sequins.

I wondered about my Hush midi dress. I was put off by the long sleeves. Plus  it's a little tight across the chest and gapes open.

So I wore old favourites, a cerise top with "plenty o' pearls", pink sandals and a black and white abstract print skirt.

Originally I was going to wear this necklace, below, a new purchase from Olivia Divine, but I felt it was a bit too colourful with the top and my regrettable choice of green glittery eyeshadow! Which do you prefer - pearls or bright necklace?
Decisions: over 50s blogger Gail Hanlon originally paired this bright multicoloured necklace with a fuchsia top but then changed to layered pearls
On a side note, I chose not to wear lipstick because of having to wear a face covering, and so I used more eye make-up than I normally do.  But I look washed out without my normal bright pink lipstick.

At the Restaurant

We were catching a "rush hour" train into London except that it was eerily empty.  Just a handful of people got off, when pre-Covid it would have been packed.  The small number who caught the train with us were all wearing masks, as is the rule on London transport.

It was strange seeing the capital so deserted on a Friday night.

We started with a cocktail in the Gilbert Scott's glamorous bar.  Mine was called a Touch of Marrakesh or something like that, and had Bacardi, rose and orange flavours.  I only like rum-based cocktails.

I'm a bit of a nightmare for drinks when we go out because I only like the odd cocktail or champagne. I hardly ever drink. Years of having to glug glasses of nasty pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc at team events have taken their toll. I can never face wine of any description or vintage  (though I do succumb to a schooner of sherry now and then!).

Here's Mr M looking suave in a silk shirt I bought him years ago.

The bar was very quiet, but in the restaurant it was getting busier with a nice buzz, and plenty of room between the tables for social distancing. It was such a pleasure to be out - and rounded off by the restaurant presenting us with a complimentary glass of champagne  (for a booking last year which was cancelled because of flooding) and a nice touch for our anniversary, below. We even had a brand new train for our return home, with fully functioning air con! Thanks London Transport!
