Top Dressing - and Link Up

Over 50s blogger Gail Hanlon in summer 2020 essential, a statement collar top, perfect for video calls, worn with white jeans and backless silver loafers

Have you heard of "top dressing?" This is the new name for the lock down solution to Zoom meetings - wearing a nice top for video calls with leggings, jeans or PJs on the bottom.

One of the summer 2020 trends is for fancy collars - and boy, do I love a fancy collar.  I used to adore Peter Pan collars and had many tops and dresses with those. I loved the look of this top by Monki (just £18) when I saw it because not only does it have an impressive collar, but it's one of my favourite colors, pink.
Pink is a great color for most of us to wear - it comes in many hues, some with a blue undertone, some with a more golden tone  (such as peach).  When you find the right pink, it casts a flattering light on your face.

This top is made of organic cotton - which is a must these days, as cotton and denim are both very bad for the environment.

I'm wearing it with a pair of new off-white jeans by Whistles at John Lewis and my silver backless loafers from Vionic (gifted 2018).

Hair Raising

On another note, I should have had my hair done on Saturday so it will start looking tatty very soon.  I gave myself a trim (!), namely the fringe and side bits, which are longer than the back and get on my nerves when they get too wispy.  I'll be interested to see what the roots look like in a few weeks time! There's no point attempting any DIY because if I used a box product to dye the roots they would be a browny colour and still look very visible! But I refuse to get stressed about it. I find that if I wash it every day (which is a bit of a pain) it has a bit of lift which hides the roots. Making the parting a bit zig-zaggy also works and is supposed to be quite trendy.

What are you doing to deal with your hair problems? Do share in the comments.

Nothing was gifted for this post in the last 12 months, although I have included affiliate links for what I'm wearing and I gain a couple of pence for every click  (it won't help me to retire any time soon).

Now it's time for #WowOnWednesday, a chance for bloggers to find new readers.  Some of the big linkies are now not operating so I'm opening #WowOnWednesday for longer. It'll be open from 6.30am UK time on Wednesday 29 April until Monday 4 May.

Last week's most popular (highest clicks) post was a celebration of National Tea Day where Michelle from Fifty & Fab reminisced about her visit to a tea plantation while on holiday in Sri Lanka in 2018. Read the post here. I also had an unforgettable holiday in Sri Lanka back in 2004, and still have a wooden canister of tea from visiting one of the plantations. I wonder if it improves with age, like wine?

Last week's most clicked fashion post was from Anna at Looking Fabulous @ Fifty, and her post My New Maxi Skirt in Bold Stripes. There's quite a story attached to how Anna got the Zara skirt and then had to search for a suitable top. I have heard a lot of rumblings about changes to Zara's sizing, which means that many of us, ordering online, may find our usual size doesn't work. #Justsaying
