I liked the colours and print of this Mistral skirt from last winter and purposely bought a blue cashmere cardigan to wear with it this year. So this was my intention, adding burgundy ankle boots and a cream silk blouse. Arriving at work, I realised the outfit looked dull, dull, dull.
Here's how I transformed it with just three accessories.
I normally wear cropped cashmere cardigans: the longer version can make us look frumpy, and it adds quite a few years. Below, the "before."
First, I unbuttoned the cardigan. Then I added long blue boots. Ankle boots are less trendy this year. They're better worn with trousers or jeans. With skirts, the new longer boots, particularly with round toes, have the edge.
I rummaged in my jewellery box and found a suitable blue necklace I'd forgotten I have, and a blue sapphire ring I bought second-hand in Plymouth last weekend.
Finally I cinched my waist with a wide blue belt. Belts of all descriptions are very in this winter, and this wide one instantly reinstated my waist and made me look slimmer.
Et voila, the outfit made less boring.
Of course, I might be deluding myself and you may all be thinking the original was better! Give me your thoughts in the comments. Do you have any other tips for great accessories that will instantly transform an outfit?

Outfit details: boots, skirt from Mistral (old) - I like this one from their new range.
