Fabulous silk for sweet dreams

I discovered the magic of silk for bedding a few years ago and I've been sleeping on silk pillowcases, and under a silk duvet, ever since. So I was delighted when Jasmine Silk got in touch to offer me a pair of their ultimate silk pillowcases.

As you can see from the picture, the silk is wonderful - so lustrous and soft.  It drapes beautifully. I can report that at 30 degrees the pillowcases wash like a dream.

If you've never tried silk bedding you may be wondering what's so special about it. The first secret of silk is that you won't get a creased face. You know, those lines all over your face when you wake up after lying in one position on a cotton pillow case. The older we get, the longer it takes for those creases to disappear.

Silk is also great for the hair, leaving it soft and silky, and it's allergy free, asthma-safe and kind to sensitive skin.

Celebrities including Gisele Bündchen and even Kourtney Kardashian, no less, have raved about the benefits of silk pillowcases.

Oscar de la Renta once said "Silk does for the body what diamonds do for the hand."

Jasmine Silk is a family business, founded in 1982, and is a world leader in finest quality silk. The parent company is based in the Hangzhou region of China, on the Yangtze River delta. As well as being one of the most beautiful parts of China with stunning scenery and ancient buildings, it is also where the best silkworms are found.

In 2008, Leon and Olivia realised that it was impossible for UK customers to buy top quality silk bed linen at reasonable prices and decided to open a new branch of Jasmine Silk over here.

They have a wonderful selection of silk bedding on their website, including sheets, duvets, silk-filled mattress toppers and silk blankets. Plus they have a range of silk nightwear, underwear and clothing. There are even silk beauty products!

Judging by my two pillowcases, the silk is very good quality - a momme weight of 19 and a thread count of 400. I'm keen to buy more from them including silk sheets and blankets. The bedding comes in several colours including pink, blue, burgundy, lavender and mocha.

I've had a silk duvet  for a few years now (from a different retailer) and it's a magical material because although only five togs, it's an all year round quilt for me.  In winter the lightweight duvet snuggles around me and keeps me cosy, and in summer, it feels light and cool.

Disclosure:  I was gifted with two silk pillow cases by Jasmine Silk. My judgment and editorial opinion is always honest and unbiased.

  1. I never really understood all the fuss over silk pillowcases. But I'll take it from you as you say it's wonderful. Perhaps I should give it a try!
