How to wear a summer skirt in winter

Take one beige midi summer skirt and turn it into a winter knockout featuring many of the trends of the season: cream, oat and beige colours; leopard print and long leather boots.

The most fashionable length for a skirt right now is midi, with anything short or knee-length looking a bit dated. This is good news for my camel midi skirt bought in summer, because with a few simple additions I can turn it into a skirt suitable for winter.
The big story for boots this winter will soon turn into long boots, particularly with skirts and dresses. It's all part of the "modesty dressing" trend, where a midi skirt and long boots takes away any risk of seeing leg.

I haven't bought a pair of long boots for years and wanted a dark brown, low heeled pair that would also look good with trousers or jeans tucked in.

Lux cream, oat, brown and caramel shades are big this winter so I added a brown waist cinching belt and a long wool blend textured cardigan in mushroom, both from Marks and Spencer. My clutch is a couple of years old, as is the green and brown necklace.

Cool for winter: brown velvet with shades of cream and camel

  2. Not only do I love that khaki button-front skirt but also styled with the belt. The long cardigan and boots are gorgeous. You are dressed up without feeling too fancy. Love it!

Welcome by Thursdays to join my linkup, my friend.

    Happy Holidays! Ada. =)

  3. I love the midi look! (On everyone else... On me it just looks like I'm standing in a flowerpot, unless I wear heels, and I can't be bothered.) I'll have to get my modesty vibe with opaque tights and boots with my knee length dresses. You've inspired me with that leopard clutch again! I'm on the hunt now for one with a cooler tone.

  4. Very clever styling Gail, I love the layering and different textures. I bought a pair of brown leather boots from Dune over ten years ago and they're still going strong! Thanks for linking up!
