Asymmetric Skirt and Polka Dot Blouse

Look smart and fashionable at work in an asymmetric midi skirt, polka dot blouse and square toed Mary Jane shoes
Followers on Instagram will know that tomorrow is a big day for Is This Mutton? Yes, I start work in a new job, a full-time marketing role after a few months off, and this will probably be the inaugural outfit.

The modern skirt silhouette for autumn 2017 is asymmetric. Add a polka dot blouse for a polished business look
It's been fun buying new pieces for my work wardrobe. In my previous job, I was mostly home based. Occasionally I went into the office or had meetings with external suppliers or customers, but I didn't   need too many smart clothes. In my new job I will be office based so need several different outfits plus accessories.

As I was starting from scratch, more or less, I thought about creating a capsule wardrobe. But I'm more of a maximalist than minimalist when it comes to clothes. Still, I have some key navy, grey or black neutral items - trousers, skirts, shoes and boots - and will add colour in my tops and accessories.

I was keen to get an asymmetric skirt, as you saw in my What I'm buying for AW17 post. I bought the very skirt I featured. It's bias cut, so a flattering look, and it's midi length which I haven't embraced recently because I find it sometimes looks a bit dated on older women. However, midi and asymmetric looks more contemporary.  I added a polka dot blouse from Finery London because we all love a polka dot, right? And the shoes are square toed, block heeled Mary Janes, a style I find both stylish and comfortable. I added a belt to cinch my waist.
Go from business to pleasure with ease in this Finery London blouse and Marks and Spencer asymmetric skirt
As the weather gets cooler, I can easily add a jacket and opaque tights.
As this outfit transitions to colder weather, add a jacket and opaque tights
"Ah, I see our garage is also a disgrace"
I'll be revealing my new work wardrobe over the next few weeks (but it won't be  all work wear, fear not!).

  2. Thanks so much Mary! It's a bit daunting, was at my last co for 20 years. But there's life in the old girl yet. I'll be sharing on Instagram tomorrow hopefully (if I'm not rushed off my feet....)

  5. Good luck with the new job Gail. This is a great outfit to make a lasting first impression. The blouse is cute and the skirt has a bit of sass - all in all, you're stating your style isn't run of the mill. Hope it all goes well and that you enjoy your new role.

You certainly look the part.... meaning business BUT with personality and flair.
You can't beat a spotty blouse really can you?
Fun, feminine but still serious enough to get the job done.

    1. It's going great - bit of a shock to the system being in the office after home working for so long, but great people!
