I set about acquiring the different outfit elements, starting with the black lace skirt which has tabs to allow you to alter the length. The black fascinator has netting and an interesting skull motif. The cream lace blouse is a romantic, pretty piece which makes a pleasing juxtaposition against the severe black. Finally I added black lace gloves for my Madonna touch, my old black pointy ankle boots and old MaxMara black jacket. The green cross-the-body is a new acquisition.
Mr Mutton's comment on the outfit was "I wouldn't want to go out with you dressed like that" and "I don't see why you can't smile in the pictures." which is something he always says. (Try showing husbands pictures in Vogue where they NEVER smile!).

A big welcome to Hilda Smith from Over The Hilda. Irish blogger Hilda is the latest addition to the team, replacing Ashley from Daisy Jones Style who has gone on to new challenges. How glamorous does Hilda look in this LK Bennett dress and dramatic black heels?
Here's Jacqui from Mummabstylish who set the challenge, also choosing black lace which is great for transitioning from summer to autumn and can be dressed up in many ways.
A close-up of the lace detail on Jacqui's dress, and of course those fabulous shoes.
We're very proud of Anna from Anna's Island Style because she featured on Johnnie Walker's Sounds of the 70s on BBC Radio 2 yesterday and did a fantastic job ( (available on the BBC iPlayer for UK readers). Anna has chosen a fresh and pretty lace look with a pink embellished top and cream lace skirt.
I always love the detail of the accessories that Anna adds. And another marvellous pair of vertiginous heels.I love the way she has styled crisp, smart black trousers with a sheer black lace body that gives a tantalizing glimpse of flesh (although she is wearing underwear, I hasten to add!).
All our outfits are featured on a Pinterest board here, plus the previous challenges.

What do you think of our lace looks?
I've really enjoyed this challenge Gail. I also found it the hardest! Your looking fantastic here and rose to the challenge well. Definitely imaginative. xx

I thought it would be the hardest because I only had 1 lace item (a pale blue skirt) that I don't like very much! I tend to associate lace with weddings and find it a bit scratchy. So that's why I came up with my "fancy dress" option!
DeleteHi Gail well what can I say? Brilliantly imagined and photographed.
ReplyDeletegreat to see everyone again!

Awww thanks Ashley, we miss you!
DeleteAmazing looks, love the attention for details, those cute brooches and the elegant choices of the bags and shoes.
ReplyDeleteWish you a gorgeous day.

Thanks so much Flo!
DeleteYou are looking fabulous in black lace, Gail. And I understand, my husband is always urging me to smile more in my photos. Maybe I am feeling serious at the moment :-) Thanks for linking up, xo

I wasn't sure that smiling in Gothic garb while in a cemetery was the done thing :-) But will try to do better!
DeleteRocking that lacy skirt with the country riding look. You look like a film star! All lovely ladies. Popping by from #CreativeMondays
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you visit and thanks for the lovely comments!
DeleteGail, you look so cool! I've always loved the whole goth style (I was a bit of a goth as a kid!). Love the setting too!!

Thanks Suzy - I don't think anyone has ever called me cool before! Chuffed!
DeleteWow, what a skirt! Love it. And I love the whole outfit. Excellent styling there - and you look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny - and did you notice I managed to get a thrifted item into it? Finally getting more success finding stuff.
DeleteGail...this is stunning on you!!
ReplyDeleteI've finally converted to lace, and I love how it can be worn with anything!
XOXO

Thanks Jodie. Still not fully convinced on lace but it was fun!
DeleteThis is such fun Gail. You sound like you enjoyed it even if you weren't smiling. We know the lack of smile is for dramatic effect. You need a Mr D'Arcy not a Mr Mutton. Actually D'Arcy didn't smile much .
ReplyDeleteHe'd be happier as Mr Froome or Wiggins. Neither of them smiles very much either!
DeleteI love this-that is quite a skirt, with those straps it reminds me of steam-punk for some reason. The belt on the jacket is super, well there's just nothing I don't love about this. And you thrifted the jacket-that is so neat. I don't know if you do linkups, but I have my September 2nd loved going on now and this would be so perfect. If you don't want to, that fine but here is the link in case you would be inclined. Again, love this! http://www.inlinkz.com/new/view.php?id=735108
ReplyDeleteI need to find someone in my neck of the wood to do something like this, it sounds like so much fun.
Thanks Teresa - I'd love to participate in your link up. I was also thinking steampunk. I nearly bought some cog necklaces!
ReplyDeleteI love this series!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic outfit, Gail! The skirt, the hat, the jacket, the blouse, the boots - they go perfectly together and create a great look! Great photos, too!
I hope you are having a good week!

Thank you so much Andrea - having a great week and hope you are too.
DeleteDramatically stunning, Gail. Your artistic approach to the challenge has given us a super look and given you lots of fun, I'm guessing! X
ReplyDeleteAlso gave me a little anxiety as I take all my photos on my own with a tripod, and was a bit nervous in the cemetery lest someone tell me to leave! But it was certainly fun gathering all the items and surprising everyone.
DeleteI love everyone's outfit and am a fan of well made lace myself. You brought out such gorgeous details with your hat, brooch and lace blouse.
ReplyDeletethanks for linking!

ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. love this outfit, the skirt and fascinator!
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted to be home and back online again Gail, and must say thank you so much for the extra shout out about my radio debut. I love the dramatic way you tackled Amazing Lace which really did live up to its name. You've really raised the bar here, well done!
ReplyDeleteI have the hat in place for next month, but am without direction as to what to wear it with - wish me luck!
